MENDHAR: Putting across the demand of locals of Rajouri and Poonch for Jammu-Poonch railway link via Rajouri, Dr Shazad Malik Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath university and a native of border town Mendhar urged the Union railway Minister to start work on Rajouri-Poonch railway link so that people of these two districts are also included in ascending economic map of India. The VC said it is unfortunate that even after 70 years of our India’s Independence these two border districts are yet waiting to see even a train. He informed that during his motivational program with local youth, everyone expressed his desire to see a railway line between Jammu to Poonch.
He said, the railway link would not only provide a succour to the economic growth of the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch but it would also be helpful otherwise , as most part of the track would be crossing between strategically important town of Akhnoor and other border areas housing important security installations. Several generations have passed with the dream to see train running here in Rajouri and Poonch and it is the right time to start it for our future generation. It is pertinent to mentioned here that in year 2008, a survey was also conducted by the northern railway for this railway track and later a Detailed Project Report was also submitted which was told as around Rs. 13,000 crore.
