Jio GigaFiber fiber-to-the-home fixed-line broadband services
Jio GigaFiber broadband registrations are all set to kick off from August 15 as announced during Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) 41st annual general meeting (AGM). Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, during the keynote introduced us to the company’s plans of launching fixed-line broadband services in the country. Customers across 1,100 cities will be able to register for services starting August 15 on the eve of Independence Day. In addition, such homes will be connected to priority based on the number of requests received in the particular area.

Jio GigaFiber plans and expected price in India
Although there has been no clear statement about the proposed plans on offer, there have been leaks of the upcoming Jio GigaFiber fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) plans to launch for customers in the coming months.
The Rs. 500 Jio GigaFiber plan offers 50 Mbps speeds with a high-speed data limit of 300GB and a validity of 30 days
The Rs. 750 Jio GigaFiber plan offers 50 Mbps speeds with a high-speed data limit of 450GB and a validity of 30 days
The Rs. 999 Jio GigaFiber plan offers 100 Mbps speeds with a high-speed data limit of 600GB and a validity of 30 days
The Rs. 1299 Jio GigaFiber plan offers 100 Mbps speeds with a high-speed data limit of 750GB and a validity of 30 days
The Rs. 1500 Jio GigaFiber plan offers 150 Mbps speeds with a high-speed data limit of 900 GB and a validity of 30 days
The company has been conducting beta trials through its Jio Fiber preview offer. The offer provides speeds of up to 100 Mbps for 90 days along with a monthly data limit of 100GB and free access to Jio’s premium apps.

While there is no installation charge, the company has been reportedly charging Rs. 4,500 as a refundable security deposit.

With Reliance Jio having reached a customer base of over 200 million subscribers in a short span of 21 months, Ambani stated that the Reliance Jio had grown on to become the world’s largest mobile data consumption network. However, the Chairman acknowledged that India was ranked quite low at 134th position in the global ranking for fixed broadband and attributed it to ‘poor’ fixed-line infrastructure in the country.As a result, JioGigaFiber services for Home broadband, Entertainment, Smart Home Solutions, Wireline and Enterprise was announced as well during the 41st AGM of RIL on July 5 this year.

As mentioned, Jio GigaFiber will extend connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1,100 cities. Jio GigaFiber for home connectivity will include Ultra High Definition entertainment on large screen televisions; multi-party video conferencing; voice-activated virtual assistants; virtual reality gaming and digital shopping and finally Smart-Home solutions. Smart-Home solutions where several devices such as security cameras, home appliances, lights and switches can be reportedly controlled by owners using a smartphone.

The company stated that fiber rollout will be prioritized to those localities from where it receives the highest number of registrations. The company will first install the Jio GigaRouter at homes which is designed to give ultra-fast internet connections with speeds of up to 1Gbps. The router is also designed to give wall-to-wall high-speed WiFi coverage. The second device which is the Jio GigaTV set-top box is connected to large-screen televisions. The set-top box offers 600 plus channels, thousands of movies, millions of songs and other type of content. The content will reportedly be available in ultra-high 4K resolution. There is a separate voice feature that is activated by issuing commands to the JioTV remote and is available in multiple Indian languages.

However, the company claims that the best experience will be on Jio network. The feature is designed to provide children with educational content, for healthcare purposes that include real-time consultation with doctors among other features.In addition, Virtual Reality headsets can be connected to the Jio GigaFiber to experience 360-degree, 3D Virtual Reality in 4K resolution. This can be used for window-shopping, visit tourists’ destinations or even fantasy adventure game.Jio GigaFiber fiber-to-the-home fixed-line broadband services come directly to an individual’s home unlike fiber provided by other operators which reach only till the building and the last few meters of end connectivity are patched using regular cables which are known to reduce the speed of connectivity.
