New Delhi: In a bid to make railway fares aggressive and to enhance income, India railways is about to do an enormous rejig in its flexi-fare scheme that was launched in September 2016, the Times of India reported. “The focus is on finding a win-win for passengers as well as the railways. The idea is to respond positively to a passenger grievance and wean them back by making rail travel affordable, competitive and comfortable in comparison to other modes. The idea is to raise revenue through higher utilisation of seats; not by putting burden on passengers,” the day by day quoted a senior railway official as saying who additional added that the brand new coverage is “ready for approval by the pertinent government functionaries”.

The rejig has already been applied on a trial foundation on the Chennai-Mysuru Shatabdi by way of Bengaluru, which noticed poor passenger site visitors between Bengaluru and Mysuru as bus fares have been cheaper. However, after implementation of the scheme, bookings jumped by 63 per cent, serving to railways’ income enhance by 17 per cent from this part.
