Kochi: BSNL has suspended activist Rehana Fathima, who’s beneath arrest for allegedly hurting spiritual sentiments by her Facebook posts. An assistant engineer at BSNL, she has been suspended from service inside hours of her arrest.

Earlier she was transferred from Kochi Boat Jetty department to Ravipuram department after she tried to enter the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala when it opened for month-to-month puja final month. And then she was once more transferred from Ravipuram to Palarivattom department.

Fathima, 32, was arrested from the workplace in Palarivattom in Kochi on Tuesday. She was later taken to Pathanamathitta.

She was booked by police in Pathanamthitta on a grievance by BJP chief Radhakrishna Menon, alleging that a few of her Facebook posts damage spiritual sentiments.

She was booked beneath Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code – deliberate and malicious acts, meant to outrage spiritual emotions of any class by insulting its faith or spiritual beliefs.

Anticipating arrest, she had moved the excessive court docket searching for anticipatory bail, however it was rejected. Dismissing the plea, the court docket had directed that police can take acceptable steps within the case.
