Vadodara: Three contract workers of Reliance Industries Ltd have been killed in a fireplace accident at its Polybutadiene Rubber (PBR) 2 plant in Koyli on the outskirts of Vadodara metropolis on Thursday morning.

An organization spokesperson mentioned, ‘In an unfortunate incident this morning, a fire broke out in PBR2 plant of Vadodara complex. The fire was restricted to one section of the plant and timely action by Reliance firefighting team helped in quickly extinguishing it.’

‘Unfortunately, three contract workers, who were injured, succumbed to their injuries, despite the best efforts of medical team. An investigation will be conducted to ascertain the reasons that sparked the fire. Meanwhile, the rest of the complex is continuing with normal operations,’ the spokesperson mentioned.

The deceased workers have been Arun Dabhi, Pritesh Patel and Mahendra Jadhav. The our bodies of the three workers have been taken to SSG Hospital for postmortem. Jawaharnagar police mentioned that they’ve registered a case of unintended demise in the case. Congress metropolis unit president Prashant Patel mentioned the contractor has agreed to pay a compensation of Rs35 lakh every to the members of the deceased’s household.

“We met the company’s management and the contractor who had hired the workers. After several rounds of discussions, the contractor agreed to pay a compensation of Rs35 lakh to each of the deceased’s family,” Patel informed TOI.
